The project involves development of a Techno-Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR) for establishing a state-of-the-art shipbuilding and repair yard at VO Chidambaranar Port, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The proposed site, about 2 km south of Zone A, covers approximately 1,150 acres with a waterfront length of 1,150 meters, suitable for constructing and servicing large vessels up to 300,000 DWT. The study scope includes waterfront design with dredging provisions, optimized shipyard layout planning, stack yard arrangements, basic infrastructure design, cost estimation, and comprehensive financial analysis. This initiative aims to position Tuticorin as a leading hub for shipbuilding and repair services in the region.
The broad scope of work envisaged for this study as per the ToR is as follows:
Conducting required land survey and review of available bathymetric and geotechnical data.
Assessing the land area requirement along with waterfront requirements.
Preparation of layout for waterfront area, including dredging and tranquillity analysis.
Preparation of layout of the shipbuilding yard based on technical criteria such as size of ships to be built, berthing area requirements, stack yard requirements, and other facilities.
Basic design of shipyard infrastructure.
Preparation of the Techno-Economic Feasibility Report.
